Kumzar is a remote fishing village located in the Musandam Governorate, the most northern province of Oman is close to the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf, between Oman and Iran, situated 26km away from the regional capital of Khasab.

The isolated fishing village has its own language Kumzari, the unique language spoken by its inhabitants. Kumzari is a subgroup of the Shihi tribe, who, by evaluating the linguistic evidence, are believed to have migrated to Oman from Iran. Kumzari is a mix of Arabic, Hindi, and Persian, with some borrowed Portuguese and English, taken from the European sailors who have travelled for centuries through the Strait of Hormuz.

Fishing is the dominant source of income, The inhabitants live largely by fishing for nine months of the year, barracuda, tuna, kingfish, and hammour, being the major catch. During summer it is extremely difficult to live in Kumzar from June to September greater part of the people go to Khasab as most of the Kumzari people have two houses, one in kumzar and the second in Khasab

Most of the natives of the town are into fishing. Kumzar is a cut-off place from the rest of the area the community living there has a distinctive culture of their own. During summer it is extremely difficult live in Kumzar and during this season majority of the people go to Khasab.
